THE PROJECT

A portal with several
kinds of information.

The 2013 Dajinrong project was planned as an information-led financial website. Its development scope brought together expert profiles and viewpoints, financial institution information, ratings, index information and member content.

Our role covered front-end HTML implementation from supplied PSD designs, backend CMS development and database construction. This was development work across the public website and the tools behind it, rather than authorship of the original visual design.

OUR DEVELOPMENT SCOPE

From supplied designs
to a managed website.

  • HTML page implementation from approved PSD layouts
  • Integration of public pages with the backend
  • Custom CMS and database development
  • Search, registration and administration functionality
  • Website testing and deployment preparation

This case study summarises the documented project responsibilities. It does not claim responsibility for the portal's financial opinions, published ratings or investment decisions.

CONTENT & DATABASE STRUCTURE

More than a set
of editable pages.

The specification covered distinct content areas, each with its own presentation and management requirements.

Expert information

Profiles, viewpoints, indexes and ordering, with content editing in the CMS.

Financial institutions

Institution introductions and associated information managed through the backend.

Index information

Publication of financial institution or product trend information and explanatory content.

Institution ratings

Rating lists and institution details, using manually entered ratings rather than an automated rating model.

Member registration

Institutional client registration and administration of member information.

Alliance content

Association member listings and individual member presentation pages.

MANAGING THE PORTAL

Content, search
and administrator access.

The backend scope included editing text, links, images and site sections. Multiple administrators could be assigned editing permissions, reflecting the needs of a site with different content areas.

Site-wide keyword search covered categories, titles and content, with paginated results. The specification also included creating and modifying online contact forms.

These requirements illustrate the application work behind an information portal: content structures, database records, public presentation and administration all need to fit together.

IMPLEMENTATION & HANDOVER

Build, test
and prepare for launch.

The documented responsibilities included front-end and backend testing, cross-browser checks, administrator access and guidance, server requirements and transfer from the test environment to the nominated server.

The original scope required the website to be viewable on phones, but did not include a dedicated touch-optimised mobile version. This is a historical 2013 implementation, rather than a claim about a modern responsive redesign.
