Our approach to content
Editorial Policy
A useful calculator needs more than an answer. Readers should be able to understand what the numbers mean, which assumptions affect the result and where the calculation has limits. These principles guide the content we create for Abaca Digital.

What our content is for
We publish calculators and explanations for finance, mathematics, science, unit conversion and everyday numerical questions. Our aim is to help readers explore a problem, compare inputs and understand a method without needing specialist knowledge first.
We favour direct answers, relevant examples and clear definitions. Additional history or background should help explain the subject, rather than distract from the task.
Sources and supporting evidence
Our sourcing standard is to prefer material close to the original information: government publications for official rules, regulators for regulatory guidance, standards bodies for technical definitions, and established educational or research sources for mathematical and scientific explanations.
For financial products, a provider's published terms can explain that particular product but should not be presented as a rule for the whole market. Country-specific pages should distinguish local practices, currencies and terminology.
Claims that depend on changing rules, rates or thresholds should identify the relevant context and source where practical. Links help readers check the information themselves; a citation does not mean that the source endorses Abaca Digital.
Calculation methods and checks
Our standard for a calculator explanation is to describe the inputs, units, method and material assumptions. Where rounding, payment timing, compounding or omitted costs can change the answer, the explanation should make those limitations clear.
Checks should include worked examples with independently calculated expected results, meaningful boundary cases and invalid inputs. Matching another calculator alone is not sufficient evidence that a method is correct, because tools can share assumptions or errors.
A result can be mathematically consistent while still differing from a lender's quotation or a real-world measurement. For example, a mortgage estimate may assume a constant interest rate and exclude fees that a lender includes.
Original writing and AI-assisted tools
Explanations should be written for the specific calculator and its readers. We should not copy another website's wording or present lightly rephrased passages as original work. Quotations, images and other third-party material must be used with appropriate permission, licence or another lawful basis.
AI-assisted tools may be used to help draft, edit, translate or develop content and code. Their output is not an authoritative source. Factual claims, formulas, translations and examples still need to be checked against suitable evidence. Responsibility for published material remains with Abaca Digital.
Illustrations or historical reconstructions should be described accurately so readers do not mistake a newly created image for an archival document or photograph.
Editorial independence and commercial content
Our editorial standard is that advertising or a commercial relationship must not determine a formula, alter a calculated result or turn promotional claims into factual guidance. Any sponsored content or affiliate relationship should be clearly disclosed where it appears.
A link to a lender, product or external resource should serve a relevant purpose for the reader. Inclusion should not be interpreted as a personal recommendation or a guarantee of suitability.
Updates and corrections
Rules, products and technical guidance can change. Content may need revision when a source changes, a calculation issue is found or a reader identifies an unclear explanation. We do not promise that every page reflects every recent development.
When correcting an issue, our priority is its effect on readers and results. Material changes should be explained where needed, particularly if an earlier calculation or statement could have led to a different conclusion. An updated date should reflect a substantive review or change, rather than a cosmetic edit made only to appear current.
To report an error, use our contact form and include the page URL, the inputs used, the result shown and what you expected instead. A reliable source or worked example helps us investigate. Please avoid including private financial or identifying information.
Limits of our guidance
Our tools and articles support learning and planning. They do not provide personalised financial, legal, tax or other professional advice, and a calculator result is not a loan offer or approval decision. Confirm important assumptions and current requirements with an appropriate professional or official source before acting.
